Progressed chart calculator
A progressed chart is your birth chart moved forward in time with secondary progressions: one day after birth stands for each year of life. The progressed Sun moves about one degree a year and the Moon about one degree a month. Enter your birth details and add your birth time for the Moon and the angles.
Your progressed chart
The progressed chart moves one day on for each year of life, and the progressed Moon changes sign about every two and a half years.
The record
Enter your birth date, time and place, then press the button. You get your progressed Sun, Moon, Ascendant and Midheaven, and the dates the Moon changes sign.
Accuracy: the sky comes from the same engine as the birth chart. The Sun and Moon agree with JPL Horizons to a few arcseconds at the progressed moment, and sign changes are found to the hour.
Enter your birth date, time and place. You get your progressed Sun, Moon, Ascendant and Midheaven for today, or for any date you pick, and the dates your progressed Moon entered and leaves its sign.

What are secondary progressions?
Secondary progressions are a way of moving your birth chart forward in time. Transits watch the planets as they move through today's sky. Progressions read a slow, inner clock instead: the chart for a later moment after your birth is treated as a picture of you at a later age.
The result is a second chart, the progressed chart, that changes gradually and personally. The progressed Sun can take thirty years to cross a sign, and the progressed Moon changes sign about every two and a half years. Astrologers use it as a lens on the long chapters of a life, never as a forecast.

§ 02
What does a day for a year mean?
The rule is symbolic: one day after birth stands for one year of life. If you were born on June 15, the sky of June 16 is read as you at one year old, and the sky of July 15 as you at thirty. At age thirty-six your progressed chart is the sky thirty-six days after your birth.
The calculator uses the length of the tropical year, 365.2422 days, so the progressed moment is your birth moment plus one day for every 365.2422 days you have lived, to the minute. Today's date gives today's progressed chart, and any other date up to the end of 2099 works as well.

The progressed Sun
§ 03
The progressed Sun
In a progressed chart the Sun moves about one degree a year, so it spends roughly thirty years in each sign. When it changes sign, which happens once or twice in most lives, astrologers read a shift in how you see yourself and what you want to build.
The progressed Sun is also a slow clock. It makes aspects to your natal planets only every few years, and those dates are often used to mark chapters of a life. This page shows its sign and degree for the date you choose, so you can see how near it is to the next sign.
§ 04
The progressed Moon
§ 04
The progressed Moon
The Moon moves about thirteen degrees a day, so in a progressed chart it travels roughly one degree a month and changes sign every two to two and a half years. A full circle of the zodiac takes about twenty-seven years, which is why the Moon returns to its birth sign near ages 27 and 55.
Astrologers read the progressed Moon as the mood of the present chapter: what you need, what you notice, where your attention falls. The calculator gives its sign and degree, the date it entered that sign and the date it leaves, so you can see how long your current chapter runs.

Ascendant and Midheaven
§ 05
Ascendant and Midheaven
The progressed Ascendant and the Midheaven come from the progressed moment, cast for your birthplace. Each moves roughly a degree a year, and a change of progressed rising sign is read as a change in how you meet the world.
These angles depend on the time of birth. A few minutes of error moves them only a fraction of a degree, but a time that is hours out can put them in the wrong sign. That is why the calculator shows no angles when the birth time is unknown.

Why does a progressed chart need your birth time?
§ 06
Why does a progressed chart need your birth time?
The Moon's position at birth depends on the hour, and so does the Moon of your progressed chart: twelve hours of birth time shift it by about six degrees, a fifth of a sign. That is why the Moon's dates and the angles need a time.
If you do not know your time, the Sun stays reliable, and the calculator gives the two signs your progressed Moon could be in. A birth certificate or a parent's memory is the best source. Once you have the hour, run the calculator again for the full picture.

How is a progressed chart calculated?
The calculator adds one day to your birth moment for every 365.2422 days you have lived, then casts the chart for that moment at your birthplace with the same engine as the birth chart: VSOP87 for the planets, Meeus's series for the Moon and sidereal time for the angles.
We check the Sun and Moon against JPL Horizons and the Ascendant and Midheaven against the Swiss Ephemeris. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is stored. To set the progressed chart beside today's sky, open the transit chart next to it.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is a progressed chart?
A progressed chart is your birth chart moved forward by the day-for-a-year rule: the sky a number of days after birth stands for the same number of years of life. It changes slowly and is read as the inner chapter you are in, while transits show the outer sky.
How do I read my progressed Moon?
Look at its sign and the dates it entered and leaves. The sign is read as the mood and needs of the chapter, and each change of sign marks the edge of a chapter about two and a half years long. It is a tradition to think with.
Do I need my birth time?
For the Moon's dates, the Ascendant and the Midheaven, yes. Without a time the calculator still gives the progressed Sun and the two signs the Moon could be in, and it shows nothing that depends on the hour.
Progressions or transits?
Transits are the planets in the sky today, set against your chart. Progressions are your own chart advanced on the day-for-a-year clock. Transits move fast and speak of events; progressions move slowly and speak of development, and astrologers often read the two together.
