§ 01
What the big three are
The big three are the three placements that carry the most weight in a birth chart: the Sun, the Moon and the rising sign. Between them they cover who you are at the core, how you feel underneath, and how you come across before a word is said.
It is a starting point rather than the whole story, but a good one. Where a horoscope by Sun sign alone flattens everyone born in the same month into one voice, the big three already tell three people apart.
§ 02
Sun, Moon and rising, in plain terms
Your Sun sign is set by your birth date and is the one most people know. Your Moon sign is set by the faster Moon and can change every couple of days, so it needs the date and, ideally, the time. Your rising sign is set by the time and place together, since the horizon turns through all twelve signs in a day.
Read together they explain a common puzzle: why you may not feel much like your Sun sign. Often it is the Moon or the rising sign that a friend is describing when they picture you.

From the big three to the full chart
Once you know your big three, the natural next step is the rest of the chart: the other planets, the twelve houses and the aspects that tie them together. Each adds detail the three placements only hint at.
This tool shares its astronomy with the birth chart calculator, so the Sun, Moon and rising sign you see here are the exact ones that appear on the full wheel. Nothing is rounded differently between the two.
Three placements, and a whole sky behind them
Save your birth details and NovaOracles reads your full chart against the moving sky each morning: not just your big three but every planet, house and aspect, computed for your exact minute and place of birth.
