Saturn sign calculator: what is my Saturn sign?
Your Saturn sign is the zodiac sign Saturn was in when you were born. Astrology reads it as where you meet limits, build discipline and slowly earn authority. Saturn takes about 29 years to circle the zodiac and stays in a sign for two to three years, so your birth year settles it and the house makes it personal.
Your Saturn sign
Saturn is the planet of structure and time: where you work hardest, doubt yourself most and eventually build something that lasts.
The record
Enter your birth date and place, then press the button. You get the sign and degree of Saturn, whether it was retrograde, the dates it held that sign and, with a birth time, its house.
Accuracy: Saturn comes from the VSOP87 planetary theory and agrees with NASA JPL Horizons to within about one arcsecond on our test dates from 1923 to 2077 (the tool covers 1900 to 2099).
Enter your birth date and birthplace, and the time if you know it. The calculator places Saturn from the VSOP87 planetary theory, marks a retrograde Saturn and gives the house when the time is known.

§ 01
What does Saturn describe in a chart?
Saturn is the planet of structure, limits, time and responsibility, and the outermost of the seven planets that traditional astrology knew. It marks where you work hard, where you fear failing and where, with patience, you end up building something that lasts. Your Saturn sign is the sign it stood in when you were born, and it shows the style of that effort.
Saturn circles the zodiac in about 29.5 years and stays in a sign for two to three years, so a whole generation shares your Saturn sign. The house is what makes it personal.

§ 02
What is Saturn's 29-year cycle?
Saturn returns to the place it held at your birth around age 29 to 30, again around 58 to 60 and a third time near 88. Astrologers read the first of these Saturn returns as the threshold of adult life, when the structures you built so far are tested and the ones you want to keep get strengthened. The Saturn return calculator finds the exact dates for your chart, retrograde passes included.
Between the returns Saturn makes a square to its birth place at about 7 and 22, and an opposition around 14 to 15 and 44, ages that astrologers link to school years, adolescence and midlife.
§ 03
What if Saturn was retrograde at your birth?
§ 03
What if Saturn was retrograde at your birth?
Saturn is retrograde for about four and a half months a year, a little over a third of the time, so many people are born with it. Seen from Earth the planet seems to move backward while our planet overtakes it, which the retrograde entry explains. The calculator marks it with ℞ whenever Saturn was moving backward on your birth date.
Astrologers read a natal retrograde Saturn as discipline that works on its own timetable: a person who sets their own standards and takes a little longer to trust outside authority. It describes a style, and the sign still shows the area of life.

Saturn by sign: rulership and element
In the traditional scheme Saturn rules Capricorn and Aquarius and is exalted in Libra, where discipline serves fairness. It is in detriment in Cancer and Leo, the signs opposite its own, where feeling and self-display pull against restraint, and in fall in Aries, where impatience resists its slow pace.
Saturn has an old reputation as the heavy planet. The modern reading keeps what is useful in it: Saturn asks for patience and effort, and it repays them in competence and respect. The short readings above give the flavor of each sign.

The house and aspects of Saturn
§ 05
The house and aspects of Saturn
With a birth time and place the calculator gives the house Saturn was in, Placidus by default, or whole sign, Koch and equal houses on the switch. Saturn in the first house is read as self-discipline and reserve, in the fourth as early duty at home, in the seventh as serious partnerships and in the tenth as career and ambition. Without a time the house stays open.
Aspects add detail. Saturn touching the Sun or Moon brings a serious tone to that part of you, and the birth chart calculator shows every aspect Saturn makes.

How the position is calculated
§ 06
How the position is calculated
Saturn's position comes from the VSOP87 planetary theory, corrected for the time light takes to reach Earth and for the nutation of Earth's axis, which gives the apparent longitude astrologers use. In our checks it agrees with NASA JPL Horizons to within about one arcsecond on test dates between 1923 and 2077. The tool covers 1900 to 2099.
Saturn moves at most about an eighth of a degree a day, so it almost never changes sign on a birthday. If it did, the calculator would show both signs and the time of the changeover.

What do I need to find my Saturn sign, and where next?
Your birth date and birthplace are enough for the sign. The birth time adds the house. The tool is free and needs no account.
From here, the birth chart calculator draws Saturn among your other planets, the Jupiter sign calculator looks up the planet that balances it, and the Saturn return calculator dates the cycle.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my birth time to find my Saturn sign?
No. Saturn stays two to three years in a sign, so the date fixes the sign on nearly every day. The birth time gives the house, which is where most of the personal reading comes from.
How long does Saturn stay in a sign before it moves on?
About two and a half years, and a little longer when a retrograde loop falls inside the sign. It takes about 29.5 years to go through all twelve.
Is Saturn in my chart a bad sign, or just a demanding one?
No. Traditional astrology called Saturn a malefic, but modern astrologers read it as the planet of maturity: where effort is needed and where it pays off. It is a lens on your chart and says nothing fixed about your life.
Why does another site show a different Saturn sign?
Most often the zodiac differs: Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, about 24 degrees back, and gives a different sign. A wrong birth date or time zone near a sign change can also move it. This calculator uses the tropical zodiac, as most Western charts do.
