Void-of-course Moon calendar: is the Moon void now?

NovaOracles' free void of course Moon calendar tells you live whether the Moon is void right now and lists every void period of the month in your time zone, with the last aspect and the next sign, and needs no sign-up. The Moon is void of course from its last major aspect in a sign until it enters the next sign, which happens every two to two and a half days.

No, the Moon is not void of course

The Moon is in Libra and still has aspects to make.

The next void begins Sat, Nov 7, 13:19 and lasts 9 h 20 min, until the Moon enters Scorpio.

Every time is computed from the real sky with our own astronomy engine and shown in your time zone. The table lists each void period of the month with its start, its end, its length, and the aspect that opened it; use the arrows for any month of 2026 and 2027.

Definition used here: the modern one. The void begins at the Moon's last exact major aspect (conjunction, sextile, square, trine or opposition) to the Sun or to any planet from Mercury to Pluto while it is in a sign, and ends when the Moon enters the next sign. Traditional astrology counts only the Sun and the planets out to Saturn, so its voids can start earlier. Most calendar apps follow the modern rule.

Void-of-course Moon in your calendar

Subscribe once and every void period of 2026 and 2027 appears in your calendar app, at the right time in your own time zone.

A separate feed, about 160 short events a year, each with the last aspect. The full moon and eclipse calendar stays on its own feed.

How it works on Android

The Android option downloads the calendar file. Open it and your phone asks which calendar app to use, such as Samsung Calendar or Google Calendar, then adds the dates there. This is a one-time import. For a calendar that keeps itself up to date, choose Google Calendar instead: a calendar added to your Google account also appears on your phone. On phones without a Google account, such as some Huawei models, the ICSx⁵ app can subscribe with the feed link below.

§ 01

What does void of course mean?

On its way through a sign, the Moon keeps meeting the Sun and the planets at the classic angles: conjunction (0 degrees), sextile (60), square (90), trine (120) and opposition (180). Each of those meetings is an aspect. At some point it makes the last one it will make in that sign, and from then until it crosses into the next sign it has nothing left to meet. That stretch is the void of course. The name is old: William Lilly described a planet as void of course in Christian Astrology (1647) when it has separated from one planet and applies to no other before leaving its sign.

The Moon changes sign about every two to two and a half days, so a void comes around 13 or 14 times a month, 160 times in 2026 by our count. Most are short. In 2026 half of them last under seven hours, 16 last less than an hour, and 21 run a full day or more; the longest is almost 45 hours. Together they cover about a fifth of the year.

§ 02

How astrologers use the void-of-course Moon

The tradition reads the void Moon as a time when things started tend to fizzle. Lilly wrote that a matter begun while the Moon is void seldom comes to much. Modern electional astrology keeps the idea in a softer form: avoid launching, signing, buying something big or making a first approach during a void, and use the hours for routine, rest, tidying up and finishing what is already moving. None of this is a law of physics, and nothing in the sky changes at the start of a void. It is a timing convention, and it helps only if you use it to choose your moments.

Short voids of a few minutes rarely matter to anyone. The long ones are where the convention has teeth: a void that runs through a whole working day is worth checking before a signing or an interview. If you plan with it, look at the length column in the table first.

§ 03

Why do different calendars show different times?

Different calendars can print different start times for the same void, and the reason is almost always the list of bodies. The modern rule, which most astrology calendars print today, counts aspects to the Sun and every planet from Mercury to Pluto. The traditional rule stops at Saturn, since Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were unknown to Lilly. When the Moon's last aspect in a sign is to an outer planet, the traditional void starts earlier, at the last aspect to a visible planet. In 2026 that is the case for 28 of the 160 voids; in 2027, with Uranus and Neptune placed differently, only 3.

Other differences are smaller. Some calendars add aspects to Ceres or Chiron, some round to the quarter hour, and many print one time zone (often US Eastern) for everyone. We use the modern rule with the Sun and every planet from Mercury to Pluto, compute every aspect and ingress to the second, and show the result in the time zone of your device.

§ 04

How this calendar is computed

For each sign the Moon passes through, our engine finds the moment it enters, then tests every aspect to the Sun and the eight planets on the real, moving sky: the Sun alone drifts about 2.5 degrees while the Moon crosses one sign, so an aspect cannot be read from a frozen chart. The last aspect before the next ingress opens the void, and the ingress closes it. Positions are apparent geocentric longitudes of date, from VSOP87 for the planets and the Meeus lunar theory for the Moon, as in our birth chart.

We check the results against published tables. Our start and end times match published tables for September and October 2026 and for January and June 2027 within three minutes. Where one published ingress time differed by 17 minutes, NASA JPL's Horizons ephemeris sided with our value. The same engine gives the void-of-course line in the lunar calendar, and these periods fill the optional calendar feed above.

§ 05

How do I use this calendar, and where do I go next?

Nothing needs to be entered: the box at the top answers for the current minute in your time zone, and the table lists every void of 2026 and 2027 with its start, end and last aspect. The glossary entry on void of course gives the short definition.

The lunar calendar shows the phase and sign for every day, the moon phases guide explains the cycle, and the Moon sign calculator finds the Moon's sign at your birth.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the Moon void of course today?

The box at the top of this page answers that for the current minute, in your time zone. If the Moon is void, it shows when the void began, the aspect that started it and when the Moon enters the next sign. If not, it shows when the next void begins.

How long does a void Moon last?

From a few minutes to almost two days. In 2026 the median void lasts about seven hours, the shortest six minutes and the longest close to 45 hours. The length column in the table shows each one.

Which planets count for the void of course?

This calendar uses the modern rule: the Sun and every planet from Mercury to Pluto, with the five major aspects. Traditional astrology counts only the planets to Saturn, so its voids sometimes begin earlier. The definition box under the calendar spells this out.

What should you avoid when the Moon is void of course?

Tradition advises against starting new things during a void: launches, contracts, big purchases, first dates, job applications. Routine work, rest, reflection and finishing what is already under way are considered fine. Treat it as a timing preference, not a rule you must obey.

Why does another calendar show different void-of-course times?

Mostly because of the list of bodies it counts. This calendar uses the modern rule, the Sun and every planet from Mercury to Pluto, while the traditional rule stops at Saturn and starts some voids earlier. Calendars that print one fixed time zone for everyone also differ from yours.
