Free birth chart calculator (natal chart)
NovaOracles' free birth chart calculator draws your natal chart with your planets, rising sign, houses and aspects, in Placidus, Whole Sign, Koch or Equal houses, and needs no sign-up. A birth chart, also called a natal chart or horoscope, is a map of the sky for the minute and place you were born. The time matters most, because the rising sign and houses turn through all twelve signs in a day.
Awaiting your birth details
The record
Fill in your birth details and press the button. The wheel then redraws the sky exactly as it stood over your birthplace at that moment, and your full reading appears below.
This free birth chart calculator builds your complete natal chart from the date, time and place of your birth in seconds: every planet computed from real astronomy, your rising sign and houses, and the aspects that tie the sky together. For example, a birth on June 15, 1990, at 1:30 p.m. in London (UTC+1) has the Sun in Gemini at 24°08′ in the 9th house, the Moon in Pisces at 15°38′ in the 6th and Libra rising at 0°38′, with Placidus houses. Four minutes earlier, the chart would show Virgo rising. Nothing to install, no account needed.

What is a birth chart?
A birth chart, also called a natal chart, is a map of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born: the Sun, the Moon and the eight planets, each set in one of the twelve zodiac signs and one of the twelve houses. The positions are astronomy. What each one means is astrological tradition.
The wheel above shows that map the way astrologers have drawn it for centuries: the zodiac around the rim, the horizon running left to right with your rising sign at the left edge, and every planet placed at the exact degree it occupied over your birthplace.

Why do I need my exact birth time and place?
§ 02
Why do I need my exact birth time and place?
The planets move slowly, but the sky itself turns once every day. Your rising sign, the sign climbing the eastern horizon as you were born, changes roughly every two hours, and the whole house wheel turns with it. Two babies born in the same city on the same day, twelve hours apart, share most planets yet live them through entirely different houses.
That is why this calculator asks for the minute and the city, and converts your local birth time to universal time using the time zone rules that applied on that date, daylight saving included. If the time is unknown, it computes a noon chart and says so: the planets hold, the houses stay provisional.

How do I read my birth chart?
§ 03
How do I read my birth chart?
Start with the big three: your Sun for the core of who you are, your Moon for how you feel, and your rising sign for how you meet the world. They frame everything else on the wheel.
Then read each planet by the sign it is in and the house it sits in, sign for how it acts and house for where it plays out. The aspects, the lines drawn across the wheel, show which parts of you work together and which pull against each other. You do not have to take it in all at once; a chart rewards slow reading.
§ 04
Placidus, whole sign, Koch or equal houses
§ 04
Placidus, whole sign, Koch or equal houses
Houses divide the sky into twelve rooms of life: self, money, communication, home, and onward. Placidus, the modern default, divides them by time and produces houses of uneven size. Whole sign, the oldest method, gives each sign one full house. Koch is popular in German-speaking countries, and equal houses, common in British astrology, count 30 degrees each from the Ascendant. This calculator draws all four, one switch apart, with Placidus selected by default.
None is wrong. Placidus sharpens charts at middle latitudes, while whole sign stays reliable everywhere and has seen a revival among traditional astrologers. When a planet changes houses between systems, read it as living in both rooms. Under every chart the calculator names the house system it used, and why charts differ explains how house systems and zodiac types shape a chart. For a longer walk through all twelve, read astrology houses explained.

How this calculator works
§ 05
How this calculator works
Every position is computed from first principles: a full planetary theory for the planets, a high-precision lunar theory for the Moon, and the classical formulas for the Ascendant, the Midheaven and the house cusps, checked against professional ephemerides to within one arcminute. We test the engine against NASA JPL's Horizons ephemeris; the accuracy page shows the comparison.
The chart is calculated in your browser, from a world city dataset and time zone history that ship with the page. To show the first line of today's reading, your birth details are sent once to our server, which does not store them; the place search sends only the place name you type. A share link carries the birth details inside it, and nothing is stored on our side.

What a birth chart can and cannot tell you
§ 06
What a birth chart can and cannot tell you
Astrologers read a birth chart as a portrait of character and timing, a language for reflecting on yourself and the people around you. It is a mirror to think with, and many people find it a useful one.
It does not predict fixed events or decide anything for you. The astronomy behind the wheel is exact, and the meanings are a tradition laid over it, so take the chart as a prompt for reflection rather than a forecast.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is this birth chart calculator?
In our tests, planet positions agree with NASA JPL's Horizons ephemeris to within 10 arcseconds, and the Ascendant and house cusps agree with the Swiss Ephemeris to within one arcminute. The accuracy page on this site lists every comparison. In practice your birth time sets the limit, since the Ascendant moves about one degree every four minutes.
What do I need to calculate my birth chart?
Your birth date, your birth time and your birthplace. The date places the planets, while the time and place set your rising sign and the twelve houses, so the more exact the time, the more precise the chart. A birth certificate is the best source. Four minutes can matter: in the London example above, 1:26 p.m. gives Virgo rising and 1:30 p.m. gives Libra.
Can I calculate a birth chart without a birth time?
Yes, with a limit. The calculator draws a noon chart and flags it. The Sun and the planets from Mercury to Pluto move a degree or two a day at most, so their signs almost always hold. The rising sign and the houses need a real time, and so does the exact Moon degree, since the Moon moves about 13 degrees a day and can change sign on your birthday.
How do I read my birth chart?
Begin with your Sun, Moon and rising sign, then read each planet by its sign and house, and finally the aspects between them. Sign is how a planet acts, house is where it plays out, and aspects show what works together.
Is this birth chart calculator free?
Yes. No account is needed and nothing is stored. The chart is calculated in your browser; to show the first line of today's reading, your birth details are sent once to our server, which does not store them. An account is only needed if you choose to save the chart for a daily reading.
Do time zone and daylight saving time matter for the calculation?
Yes, because the houses and the Ascendant depend on universal time. Enter the local time from your birth certificate. The calculator uses the time zone and daylight saving rule that applied at your birthplace on that date, even if the rules changed over the years, and converts it itself. If you enter coordinates by hand, you choose the time zone yourself.
Which house system does the calculator use?
All four: Placidus (the default), whole sign, Koch and equal houses, switchable in the form and beside the result. Placidus is the modern standard and divides the houses by time into unequal parts. Whole sign houses are the oldest method and give each sign one full house. Koch is especially popular in German-speaking countries, and equal houses count 30 degrees each from the Ascendant and are common in British astrology. Inside the polar circles Placidus and Koch cannot be drawn, so equal houses from the Ascendant take over and the result says so. None of them is wrong. If a planet changes house between systems, you can read it in both areas.
