Wheel of Fortune Tarot Card Meaning: Love, Yes or No, Reversed

In the Rider-Waite deck, the Wheel of Fortune is a large wheel hanging in a blue sky among clouds, with a sphinx holding a sword on top, a snake descending on the left and a jackal-headed figure rising on the right. Letters around its rim spell TARO, which can be read as ROTA, the Latin word for wheel, along with Hebrew letters and alchemical symbols in the inner ring. In the four corners, winged figures, a man, an eagle, a bull and a lion, each hold a book.

The positions describe a cycle. One creature climbs while another falls, and the sphinx on top sits steady, so something remains calm through the movement. The four winged figures return in the corners of the World card, and they are usually read as a fixed, watching presence. The books suggest the pattern can be studied even when it cannot be controlled.

Upright, the Wheel of Fortune means that circumstances are moving. A stalled matter can get going, a plan can change through someone else's decision, or a pattern that felt permanent can loosen, and the sensible response is flexibility and close attention to what is changing around you.

It does not promise that the next position on the wheel is better. It reminds you that no position is permanent. If things are good, enjoy them and prepare. If they are hard, the turn is already on its way.

In love, the Wheel of Fortune points to a turn in timing that can shift things quickly: a chance meeting, an overdue reply, or a conversation that opens when you did not expect it. The card favors those ready to say yes to a plan made at short notice.

For couples, the card says the situation is not fixed and can be adjusted by both of you. For singles, it suggests that an evening you almost skipped might matter. About someone's feelings, the Wheel suggests that something is changing for the other person as well, and that their position may not be the same next month. Keep in touch and keep your own pace.

At work, the Wheel of Fortune says that circumstances are moving, so stay flexible, be ready for an opening, and keep your résumé, portfolio or notes in order so you can act quickly. A reorganization, a new contact or a late reply can change what is possible.

On money, the Wheel speaks only about attitude: accept that conditions change, and do not read any single good or bad week as permanent. Real decisions about funds belong with a qualified professional.

The Wheel of Fortune answers yes: when the tide turns your way, the card favors going along with it. Questions about timing, openings and chances suit it best, and the yes covers the present turn with no lasting guarantee. The yes or no mode treats it as a yes for your own questions too.

Reversed, the Wheel of Fortune is traditionally read as a setback in timing, resistance to a change already underway, or the feeling of being stuck on the low part of the wheel. Only a physical deck can show it reversed, since the tool never draws a reversed card.

When you feel stuck, ask which part of the situation you can still act on. Small steady steps tend to matter more than waiting for a dramatic turn.

The Wheel of Fortune is tied to Jupiter, the planet of growth, generosity and good fortune, in the Golden Dawn tradition. Jupiter takes about twelve years to orbit the Sun and spends roughly a year in each sign, so its influence in astrology is read as a slow, long cycle, much like the wheel. To follow planets as they move, the glossary entry on transits explains the idea, and the birth chart shows where Jupiter stood on your birth date.

Say yes to one invitation or chance you would normally pass over this week. Keep it small: a coffee with a colleague, a class you were unsure about, a detour on your commute. Pay attention to what the unplanned thing shows you, and write down one line about it in the evening.
