§ 01

How is the card drawn?

The deck here is the 22 Major Arcana, and every card carries one fixed reading. Fourteen read yes. Death, the Devil, the Tower and the Moon read no. The High Priestess, the Hermit, Justice and the Hanged Man read maybe. The readings follow the tone of each card, so the Sun is warm and the Tower is blunt.

Which card comes up depends on your question, the date and a random seed stored in your own browser. The same question on the same day gives the same card, so pressing the button again changes nothing. Tomorrow the same question can draw another card.

§ 02

Asking a good question

Ask something that has two honest answers and sits in your own hands. Should I send that message? Is this the week to apply? Does it make sense to say yes to this plan? Questions about what another person feels or what will happen to you give the card nothing to hold.

Keep it to one question at a time, and write it the way you would say it to a friend. If the question has an "and" in it, split it in two. Ask only when you are ready for either reading.

§ 03

What does a yes tell you?

A yes card reads the energy of the question as open, like a green light that still asks you to watch the road. The Fool stands for beginning before everything is ready, the Sun for things out in the open, and the Star for hope within reach.

A yes does not replace facts. If the question is about money, health, a contract or someone's safety, use the card as a reason to look closer, then check with a person who knows.

§ 04

What does a no tell you?

A no card asks you to stop and look. Death points to an ending that is already under way, the Devil to something that has a grip on you, the Tower to a structure that will not hold, the Moon to a picture that is still unclear. None of them is a verdict on your life.

Read a no as a pause. Ask what the card is pointing at: a rushed plan, a hidden cost, a worry you have been avoiding. Often the useful part of a no is the question it leaves you with.

§ 05

What does a maybe tell you?

Four cards read maybe, and they are the thoughtful ones. The High Priestess asks you to wait and listen. The Hermit asks for time alone with the question. Justice asks you to weigh the facts fairly. The Hanged Man asks you to look from another side.

A maybe fits a question that is still half-formed. Sharpen it, gather what you are missing, and ask again on another day.

§ 06

Why only the Major Arcana

The 22 Major Arcana are the cards with the strongest, clearest tone, which is what a yes or no needs. Each one also carries a planet or a zodiac sign from the Golden Dawn tradition, shown next to the card, so behind the Sun card stands the Sun.

The 56 minor cards are left out on purpose. They add shades that a one-word reading cannot hold. For richer readings, try the card of the day or the three-card spread.

§ 07

Using it with a clear head

Tarot is a tradition and a lens, and it predicts nothing. The card gives you a prompt to think with, and the decision stays yours. Notice how you feel when the card appears: relief and disappointment are both information.

Draw once per question. If you keep asking until you like the card, you are asking yourself, and the cards have nothing to add. For anything serious, talk to someone you trust or a qualified professional.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the yes or no tarot free?

Yes. Every draw is free, with no sign-up and no payment card needed. Members can read the reason behind each card next to a daily reading written from their own birth chart.

Why do I get the same answer?

The card comes from your question, the date and a seed in your browser. The same question on the same day gives the same card by design, so you cannot shop for a better card. A new day or a new question draws again.

How are yes, no and maybe decided?

Each of the 22 Major Arcana has one fixed reading based on its traditional tone: 14 yes, 4 no and 4 maybe. The question picks the card, and the card carries the reading.

Can a tarot card really say yes or no?

It cannot know the future. What it does well is give you a quick, honest reaction to a choice. Treat the card as a mirror for your own thinking, and decide with the facts in hand.
